Course length: Two Days

 

Course Description: Duty handgun II introduces students to techniques for operating their weapon under high stress, sharpening mental reference points and refining marksmanship and problem solving in extreme circumstances. Students will learn advanced techniques for handgun use in austere and low light environments. Students will also be required to negotiate complex situations requiring real-time thinking and demonstration of skills. Students are expected to be in good shape as this is a physically demanding course.

• Real world safety

• The OODA loop, Information Theory, Hicks Law and Occam’s Razor

• Threat anatomy

• High stress marksmanship

• High stress Magazine changes (tactical and emergency)

• Malfunction clearances

• Weapon mounted light techniques

• Handheld light techniques

• Strong/support side hand only skills

• Transition to backup gun (if carried)

• On/off cover shooting

• Movement

• Two man techniques

• Wounded officer recovery

• Exigent entries

• Duty handgun with 3 magazines (single stack, 5-7 magazines)

• Backup gun if carried on duty

• Duty belt and gear

• 1200 Rounds handgun200 rounds backup gun (if carried)

• Weapon mounted light (if carried)

• Handheld light

• Spare batteries for all lights

• Ear and eye protection

• Hat

• Long sleeves recommended (pants mandatory)

• Class size: Minimum of 10, no more than 15

• Sunblock

• Field cleaning kit

• Basic maintenance tools

• Knee and elbow pads
